Staying healthy in the workplace can help you improve your mood and job performance. Healthy habits can help you be more productive at work while also improving your physical and mental wellbeing. We'll go over a few ways you can be healthier at work in this blog.
1. Stand up or change stance every 30 minutes
Sitting behind a computer all day can be exhausting, and hard on the eyes, neck, back and head. Unfortunately, sitting in an awkward position can place pressure on the neck, shoulders and spine, increasing the risk of repetitive strain injuries such as tension neck syndrome. The first thing you can do is switch to standing at your desk, if your desk is adjustable for that. The second thing you can do is to stand up and take a little stroll for just a little, and to sit down again while taking care of your posture. If you're having trouble maintaining a proper posture, try an ergonomic chair that requires you to sit with good posture.
2. Walking Meetings
The second tip is an addition to the first tip, which is to hold walking meetings. It goes without saying that it is recommended that you get exercise every day to stimulate mindfulness and vitality. Many of us did during the pandemic era, so why should that stop that now? One advantage of holding a walking meeting is that the brain is more active because the body is in motion. And when your brain is more active, it simply performs better. And, when taken outdoors, you'll get a healthy dose of Vitamin D – a crucial vitamin found naturally in the sun.
3. Keep healthy snacks close
It may be that the snacks from the cafeteria or something sweet from a vending machine can be tempting. So, instead, leave a bag of almonds or kale chips next to your laptop. It’s much easier than getting up to snag something from the office kitchen.
4. Start an office work-out, or game tradition
Make time for a short energetic workout when there is time, if possible with fellow colleagues. Even five minutes could be enough to refresh the brain and release tension. Besides getting in a quick workout, it’s a great way to bond as co-workers. Or when a workout is not everyone's cup of tea, perhaps a short game of table tennis is.
5. Avoid bad lunching habits
Bringing your own lunch also has it benefits as you have full control of what you eat. As a result, it reduces the outside urge to get lunch somewhere where you, and have limited choices, and may not eat as healthily. Also important, you should eat lunch away from your desk. Studies have shown that it is important to keep work and relaxation separated. A desk is associated with working which could prevent you from enjoying your break to the fullest, because work can be stressful.
6. Go to the bathroom on another floor
Another tip to make sure you get enough exercise at work is to use the bathroom on another floor. It makes the trip to the restrooms longer, and if you have to go several times in a day, it's a considerable number of extra steps on the pedometer as well!
7. Stay hydrated
One of the easiest steps you can take to stay healthy at work is drinking enough water. Water consumption can also be improved by eating enough of fruits and vegetables. You may require extra water to stay hydrated if your workplace is dry or hot.
